The product photography for a fancy Bag End set is going to be them kissing in bed with the set awkwardly off to one side.

HootTheOwl posted:is it better in person because all the pics did not look good? I think it does! The colors pop a lot better in person, especially the deep purples against the black background. There’s some good usage of the new pearlescent colors as well, and lots of cool little parts sprinkled around.

Check out this Cesna 1727 MOC my 12 year old (who is super into planes) put together, using the model from his XPlane game as reference. He wants me to stress that this is a first prototype, with the colors driven by element availability - he has already used one of the apps to make instructions for a more color coordinated version. edit: it's designed to hinge open to reveal its tender insides for easier play

Your kid is amazing to be designing that, it's awesome. At 12 I was still making spaceships with the green baseplates from the red buckets that looked nowhere near this good or advanced.

I recently learned about this piece and saw that it is really inexpensive for it's size. I've been kicking around the idea of a MOC modular and thought it would make be useful. They are 16 studs wide, so two make it as wide as a standard modular. It'd be boring without being dressed up a bit, so I fooled around in Stud.io and ended up with something art deco inspired. I'm pretty pleased with it. Everything you see is 638 pieces and $55.44 according to Stud.io. Now to make the ground floor and the roof, and fill things in structurally. Edit: poo poo, I just realized that the decorative bits on the sides would make it hang over a 32 wide base plate. Oh, well. Everything else about it works. deoju fucked around with this message at 02:08 on May 16, 2024 |

Because the Star Wars dioramas are recreating a fun scene. They are the scene where Darth Vader busts onto Leia's ship or the pod racing. These dioramas are just "hey, remember the characters from this movie/show? here they are in a thing that looks like the movie/show." Why does the golden girls one include stage lights? We know it's a TV show, what does that add? The Gizmo is the only one that looks good. The ET one is decent, but ET is ugly, so I wouldn't want an ET set.

as far as i was concerned, all the TV show sets were basically star wars army builders, but for lego city mocs. they'd usually go on discount and you'd get a shitload of wall bricks and flooring and whatever, and the TV shows that center around an office or apartment are gonna be suitably generic to mold it into whatever you'd want. and then sell the minifigs to get even more money back. not that i ever did this. i make good money and i'd probably need to make twice as much as i do now to do poo poo like buy 5 of the same set just for parts but yeah, the TV show dioramas are just more the area than an actual scene. i suppose they're leaving that up to the builder to recreate kevin spilling chili or whatever tickles the brain. i guess part of it is that sitcoms are, by design, not going to have as many big moments like that as a movie would

to your point about the cameras being in the golden girl set - if you dont have them, then you have a set that's just old ladies having breakfast or lunch in the kitchen. the characters dont really translate to minifigs that well, its not like vader or gimli. i guess the thought process is someone will look at it and go 'ohh cameras... so its a tv show... tv show with old women? oh golden girls' which isn't the kind of effect a set should have imo. shouldnt have to lead people by the nose.
