I mean, we also hosted Chingy and Austin Mahone, so yea. He's also playing the synthline from Yaz(oo)'s Don't Go.

There's this thing in recent pop (and I mean the stuff you hear at fairgrounds and lovely local radio stations) where the hook from a well known song is just jammed in there wholesale and shamelessly. Part of me gets that the history of folk, pop and blues derived music is full of that, and of course there was sampling, but that was mostly transformative and not in such a blatant "I don't have a good hook of my own" sense.

I’ve seen people praising the lyrics as deep and it makes me feel like I’m going mad. “Please stay” “Oh god I hope I don’t lose you” Like, it’s not even really lyrics, it’s just him saying exactly what he feels without any metaphor or word play or anything whatsoever. Just stating his thoughts and desires.

What does worry me is that they took Taylor Swift to court about her melody that is the same as I'm Too Sexy, and it is, it passes the musicologist test of looking the same on the page. But "My Girl", from 1965, has the same drat melody, so why are they getting any credit at all??

Some of you might remember 'em from Need for Speed:Hot Pursuit but that version of Fever for the Flavor was censored to the point of basically a full rewrite except for the weird offhand line about having neon underglow. The original is more into a different sort of Hot Pursuit. I played the hell out of Hot Pursuit 2 first and it blew my mind when I heard the real song.

Sometimes the sample is really awkward, like 3rd Bass's Pop Goes the Weasel uses the horn but from sledgehammer but it sounds super out of place, it's still considered a hip hop classic though. https://youtu.be/HzXI_ApY4dY?si=bu4mOndJ65gWvgGP
