If the food is giving her that many problems then by god give her the expensive stuff. Poor little thing, sounds terrible. You must be really stressed out.

I don’t know about allergy tests but I believe the thing people do is get the allergies under control and then test one ingredient at a time with different foods until you find the cause. My friend’s dog had problems with chicken, but once they figured that out she’s been great.

Cool and good.
Oh I've no issue giving her the expensive stuff, tbh it's about the same price as the posh poo poo we was giving her before. I'm more venting that it's taken so long to get to this point as she shouldn't have been feeling like this in the first place had we been listened to 9 months ago when we first raised it.

Honestly the dog can get anything she wants or needs, so long as she's happy and comfortable, I just worry and like I say, annoyed at how long it's taken to get to this point

Yeah wasn’t trying to throw shade or anything. I know exactly how you feel. We listened to a bad vet when our dog was a pup and caused her all sorts of mental distress and I still beat myself up for it. Hopefully you can figure it out and she gets better quickly.

I get that, turns out our doggo has some kind of allergy somewhere and rather trying to work out what it was they just want us to feed her expensive prescription food.

She vomits a little each day that she's off it and it's caused her pneumonia so obviously we're concerned about her a lot right now. But I'd feel much better if we could identify what the actual allergen is rather than just avoiding "everything".

I guess it's just going to take us a long time to figure it out. Are actual allergen tests for dogs a thing even?

I don't see why they wouldn't but they're likely to be ruinously expensive.

Normal guidance with that sort of thing seems to be trying one of the limited ingredient diets or a novel protein.

Trying to encourage my cats to eat more food less treats. They go absolutely bonkers for treats and I'm thinking of switching food to help encourage not-quite-as-many-treats. Looking for some recommendations for indoor cats who seem to really love salmon flavored treats.

If you want them to eat less treats then give them less treats? They are meant to go bonkers for treats, that's why they're treats.

I try to give them fewer, yeah. I guess I'm just wondering if another food would make them happier. I kind of dote on my cats to an absurd degree.

If you give kids ice cream all the time they will be "happier" but it won't be great in the longterm. You could try different foods to see if they like them more but you're never gonna get the same reaction as giving them the cat equivalent of ice cream.

I mean "treats" may not necessarily be something unhealthy for a cat, a new type of cat food they like better would probably qualify, the process of switching over to a new food that is salmon flavored might be super exciting for them as if it were an unhealthy "treat". My grandma makes a whole home cooked diet for her dog, which is nutritionally balanced, and most people would say that's pretty exciting food for a dog. Doing something like that, while way too much effort in my opinion unless you're retired or otherwise have a lot of time on your hands, would also be an option. Now I don't really have any suggestions on specific brands though, my cats don't like fish stuff.

I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?
tangential to this, you know how some cat treats are kinda chewy or soft? Is there any food like that? We have a cat who I'm fairly certain has lousy teeth. Unfortunately he is a former porker who lost a lot of weight after an immune thing, so I'd like to get some weight on him before I have him put under for a cleaning, possibly pulling. He eats wet food (when he wants) but I'd also like to round it out with a little extra calories. This is surprisingly hard to find online so it may just be treats
