Nice, the art on Seska and Culluh is rad, more rad then the card itself! I immorted Tyler with the galaxy phase drop and forgot he was a Convergence day collection guy so that was a free pack, he's being tossed in the freezer. Finished another purple and leveled a third up to 100 to use for ad farming of the purple equipment. Finished around 800, I didn't realize I was above 750 when I went to sleep or I might have done a few more rounds for two copies, but one is enough for the art and it's not like I'm going to use cites on Seska and Culluh....

And I did a thing - Dabo had next week's prize Motura as the big prize. No one had first to maxxed him. I had 11K dilithium from 4x offer wall solitaire games. I got him, and even lucked out as the whole top row was still there when he came up. A few minutes of leveling and citing and now I got first to max - https://www.bigbook.app/crew/motura_crew Now I just have one citation left until the next honor sale in a month or so but it was cool doing something neat and I can skip most of the next weekend's galaxy outside of getting the purples.

The Twin Mistresses of Evil in two weeks seem okay, good voyagers but common skill set, and they are a prize for the full skirmish. It is still looking like the Janeway will be the best gold from the mega unless the last week's crew is surprisingly good (Wixiban, who is one of Neelix's Talaxian criminal friends, but this is wrg and randos get good cards all the time)

I leave some of the gold equipment that needs purple components unbuilt and then use adwarps of missions for those purple pieces, it's easier than memorizing specific missions if I don't have someone I'm actively trying to level. Otherwise I usually adwarp a mission that drops 2 and 3 star databases as I am always low on those

I also have a few rando purple/gold crew that I have partially leveled because the empty blue and green equipment slots will make the equipment appear on the dabo wheel or be prizes in gauntlet loot boxes. I usually have to equip the shirts as those aren't universal (I kept getting some weird green robe in gauntlet and tracked it down to 1 star Arachnia Janeway and equiped it to stop getting it but had 8 of them lol) but I get plenty of whisky/social lessons/other common equipment

Thanks! This was the first unreleased crew that showed up in my dabo, I only did it because I had just enough dilithium to do it (if I saved the ad spin for last) but it will cost me a bunch of crew slots next sale. It seems to be how most of the first to maxes are done now

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

oh I see
I do leave empty equipment slots for the dabo wheel, keeping in mind the wheel can "see" crew you've airlocked so my routine is to spin the wheel before I grab random crap with a 10x Basic Rewards (to fulfill the daily "buy something" mission) or finish a voyage or whatever and wind up with some airlocked common crew.

I only ever ad-warp if I'm completely out of chrons and need like one more mission done for some reason. Mostly I avoid doing the ad thing. I used to use an ad for a second dabo wheel spin but I got sick of looking at the ads.

The ads are terrible but I'm usually doing something when I run them so I don't have to watch the terrible Temu ads. The ads are better than any other game I've played, but that's not really a complement.

I did not know about the dabo seeing the airlocked crew but that makes sense, they pop up in other things randomly unless they specifically turn them off
The worst is if I am not paying attention and the blue equipment is for rando golds I don't own, I've had to trash some bigger stuff because the odds of me even getting Commander Oh or someone similar is super low. I stumbled into it by accident by having the Pakled purple guy partially leveled and it kept paying off, then I saw it is a legit strategy.

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

I always have like 50+ partially-leveled crew so it's no problem having hundreds of empty equipment slots for the wheel to fill, I just don't need more random things I don't realize are for some blue crew and they just clog up inventory for years without me knowing.

I got Motura so no incentive to better than 130K and done, he isn't super good and I would suggest getting the trill Bashir instead (now in the portal!). I don't have any Lon Suder's so in theory getting 3 would be good and even though he would hit a tier in the Betazoid collection I'm probably not going to go hard for copies. He pops up enough in beholds I'm not too worried.

Next weekend is a full skirmish so that's where the spending will be to level out purples (or at least get a few to 99 and sit on them until the run that event where you immortalize 3 cards again) The Twin Mistresses of Evil have a fun card, at least with the art. The common skill set will drop like a rock in voyage ratings. The Wixiban card posted for the week after that is not good either, this mega is disappointing outside the Janeway.

The Voyager collection is up and I hit a bunch of tiers (at 80 exactly) so have 5 10x packs to open, I'm staggering them due to slot space which is just more incentive to finish those purples

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

I've got Lon immortalized on both accounts, thinking going enough to get the Janeway at 25k and that's it. Motura would be nice, but hitting top 1500 means blowing a shitload of chrons and honestly I have a shitload of unleveled golds that I could spend those chrons on instead of getting yet another level 1 gold to go into that very, very, very long queue. I do have the seska and cullah from last week on my main account, though, and if I leveled that crew up, I'd have cheap quick 100% hand-ins... but yeah still that'd cut the chrons available to try and hit 1500 and I just have a strong feeling if I try I'll wind up at 1900th place, out of chrons, and mad. Better to save a few thousand more for next week.

I also had a ton of Voyager tiers and I've been opening one pack a day, to not overwhelm my roster, although so far I've had one dud pack and three that just added a star to a purple I own so that's been fine.

I got one copy of Lon Suder to go with the galaxy copy just from 130K so they are going to sit around a while. The event was weak for a galaxy so if I didn't already have the gold it would be an easy acquire.

Time to get a bunch of crew to level 99 and sit because that midweek OE that wants you to immortalize three crew starts Tuesday, but besides that a whole lot of pew pewing will be going on. Twin Mistresses are the best of the mega's golds (outside of the recurring Janeway) and are cool art so getting a copy is a goal.

Taking time off last weekend was nice, but I'm at the stage when I'm out of slots and got a lot of purples to freeze so I expect that to happen this event. I had to pack away a few golds who don't voyage much or have the Voyager trait so won't be useful in the upcoming shuttle events.

Next up is the usual galaxy/faction and then full faction event, next week's reward looks not so hot so I'm not going to be pushing it to the limit then. Maybe full shuttles will have a cool new prize.

There is a new Data in the Honor Hall, he isn't that great but new characters there usually get posted just before an honor sale so definitely one this month. RIP my slots.

Rumor is there will also be a new Voyage gold, I haven't even seen the last one so lol as that starts expanding beyond my ability to get them even with most of my voyages hitting 12 hours.

I didn't have a ton of time through the weekend for the skirmishes, so I focused on my main account and late sunday night into monday morning I slammed through a few thousand chrons and finished in 1080th place, scoring the Twin Mistresses of Evil plus four redundant copies of the hanson drone guy.

I had eight purples ready to immortalize by the end of last weekend's event

including one to fuse, and I fused the extra Hansons before airlocking him, and that along with advancing a bunch of level 1s to level 10 to do Advance Your Crew in like five minutes lol. I got a couple useable copies of purples out of the rewards so that's cool, and also it's really nice to get seven purples off my active roster, claiming a couple of collection milestones in the process.

For next weekend, "facepalm paris" is a real lol of a card, the Writer trait being the standout since there's only one other writer + maverick crew in the game (Kelis): once Facepalm appears in the portal, that'll become a viable combo in boss battles, so you'll eventually want one or the other, I suppose. He's in five collections though, so worth it if you need another guy in a bunch of collections. I'm going camping friday night so I'm assuming I'll just run some shuttles to hopefully get the next concerning flight janeway copy and then leave it there. Which may mean I have 2 copies of facepalm on my roster for the next three years lol

congrats you did better than me, wife and I were sick all week but because I was less sick I got to watch the toddler who had somehow recovered very quickly from the cold he gave us both. Between that and being too exhausted to stay up most nights I was sub-2000 for most of the event, Monday morning I was able to do a bunch of rounds and just crossed to 1450ish by the time the event ended for a single copy.

For the OE I finished three purples and threw them in the freezer just in time for that Mudd to appear early. From the beholds I got enough stars to queue another purple for finishing, added a star to another, got honor from the third purple behold, and the gold was a second star for The Prophet, who will continue to do nothing lol.

They messed up the q mission borg queen and a fifth star was availble for a few hours if you spent a lot of dil and chrons to get her, but is now back to dilithium. I guess save up on q components for when they release another crew, I am continuing to enjoy the quantum each week.

Next event is full faction with a prize of a Kira that is decent but not spectacular. Interesting addition is a green Borg Queen from Voyager (played by the actress who I think doesn't have a Timelines card yet) who has 6 collections already!

All shuttles all the time. But the Peldor Joi Kira prize is ok, somehow there are two Kira variants that rank higher in voyage rankings and she doesn't have as many skills as other Kiras so probably won't be as big of a collection monster, so definitely not going to be sad if I get a copy. Best bet is to at least get three copies of the new green borg queen as that is seven collections and well worth the citation.

As an added bonus, next week is also a full shuttles event rerun with a comparable prize except is it noted Ferengi Cousin Gaila, who I guess wasn't in the game until now. With all these shuttles events going on, have you gotten the shuttles part of the Harry Mudd OE done? I'm still a bit behind but remember that failed missions still count.

Leperflesh

I'm still working on those, I've tanked federation shuttles on both accounts but tapping through 200 missions is still absolute hell.

I don't really have enough shuttle tokens accumulated to go hard for 2 straight weeks, but I assume the rerun event will have a 4-star I don't care about so I'll likely push harder this weekend and not worry about next.

Just as well. I wish we'd get a crew slot sale ahead of the honor sale. I'll have to freeze several golds if I want to buy cheap begolds. I definitely want the discount citations though, and each one is a 40k with a begold so I'm gonna wind up with more crew.

I finished 666th place (lol) on the backs of squad points for two copies, usually with two shuttle tokens at 9 hours at a time on Friday/Sat/Sun. Probably not going for this week's gold but will still get the Weyoun.

Honor sale has been good so far, stars on Gunslinger Uhura (the 4th, so probably will retrieve #5 after the sale ends as she has 5 collections), Booker and Grudge, 23rd Century Martok, Xahean Adira, President T'Rina, Resilient Tuvok. New crew so far: Lt. Shax, Pah-Wraith Cult Dukat, Lara, Mirror T'Pol, and Returning Saru. Many of the cites are earmarked for 4 star giveaway crew I need to finish leveling (Ubiquitious Borg Queen, Kashyk, Harry Mudd, COP SIsko) but I'm still clearing a bunch of purples to make room for the golds and I can't spend too much leveling as I need the credits for retrievals. I should end up ok slots wise but might have to freeze a gold or two for a few days. Still got my dil saved up for the eventual slot sale!

Several collections have higher tiers so you may have gotten some free stuff or now have crew you were putting off finishing that are now worth going after again. Twin Mistresses now being in the Captain Proton collection is almost worth considering giving them 4 citations.

This weekend's event is a rerun Combs event that's full shuttles. I expect it will be not that competitive because we just had shuttles and Gaila is not as good as the Kira, and next week's prize is somehow even worse.

Yeah I have all the rerun crew pretty much, I have a weyoun 5 on my alt account but not my main, not planning to try on the shuttles unless there's some reward on the list that I actually need or care about.

I used 5k chrons for today's critical chrons to finish up a couple purples to make room and then got Sanctuary Booker, Temporarily Detained Jett Reno, Daring Tilly, and a second star on Interfaced LaForge from a behold with a 9 and a 10 as the other options. That re-fills my roster and I haven't got the chrons to immortalize anyone else this week so I'll probably wait till the last day of the event and then decide if I want to freeze my worst couple or three immortalized golds in order to roll the dice some more. I really need the 40k cites though so I probably will.

Maybe you already know this, but re: your "3 stars is when I want to consider leveling them", there's an exception: adding stars does nothing for gauntlet, so if you have good gauntlet crew you always want to get them up to level 100 fully equipped for the maximum Proficiency.

I have a shitload of level 1 golds, but I always pick out the gauntlet ones and level them as soon as I can spare the chrons.

If you just meant Clone 5, he's useless for gauntlet so yeah.

4th star for Gunslinger Uhura
2nd and 3rd stars for President T'Rina
3rd star for Resolute Tuvok
2nd stars for Interfaced La Forge, Dreamwalker Chakotay (barfo but both times he was by far the best option), Xahean Adira, and President Rillak
New crew - Lara, Captain Saru, Pirate Q, Pah-wraith Cult Dukat, and Mirror T'Pol

Also got Garth of Izar off a merit pull

Special breaking news while I was looking up the next event - Due to a bug that affected some people being not in their fleet, it looks like they will add a bonus day to the Honor sale and give everyone a bunch of goodies (at least enough honor to get another 10K pull)

In addition to all that, the event was light enough that I wasn't even trying and was around 850 for most of it, so figured "Why not?" and sent a 5 tokens total over Saturday night/sunday and finished high enough for two copies of Gaila. So from all this, it looks like I should retrieve Gunslinger Uhura and President T'Rina stars after I finish the Badda Bing crew as they both have 5 collections.

Speaking of Badda Bing crew...oh, wait, I have that Nog finished! We have a full galaxy with a new purple Ferengi and the reward is a Rios who isn't even a top 100 Voyager so I'm at 130K and done this week. I'd advise saving your chrons as next event is a full skirmish! That prize? Animated Riker from the Very Short Treks, which if you haven't seen, don't!

I still have to finish 5 purples to make room for new crew and am saving adding cites to the giveaway golds to finish them because next week's OE is the level your crew one and I can save finishing those golds for then

I didn't get any really remarkable golds, I picked up quite a few tier 7+ but was mostly grabbing the 40k cite + begolds for the citations. I had to ice quite a few immortalized golds to make room so I'm really desperate for the next crew slot sale at this point.

Best gold might be Temporarily Detained Jett Reno, but I also got Mirror Spock, Martian Quark, Rura Penthe Commandant, another star on... uh, Resilient Tuvok I think? And on Dr. T'Ana maybe? And a third star on Ishara Yar.

That's all on the main account. Similar story on my alt though. A second star on Sphere-Builder Presage and Tempted Data and Torchbearer Rejac, and I got a new Covert Operative Leland, a Young Guinan, Luma Rahl Kira, Augment Commander O'Brien, Handler Worf maybe? and a King Ridley.

I'm probably missing one or two.

As for the event, I got a couple copies of Penk I needed but spent zero shuttle resources.

One day I will proofread my posts well, but today is not that day.
I got some good new golds this event.

Ceti Alpha V Khan
Inspiring Burnham

Both are new cards and high tier voyagers so I'm happy.

Otherwise picked up a few random stars here and there, got my 5th on Gloria so almost done with the Dixon Hill collection.

I picked up Grateful Lwaxana, Queen Kira, and a bunch of stars; nothing exciting. The cites did let me finish off Beta V Hemmer and Masaka Data though, so I'm interested to see how often they do work.

Either Artifact (I do not have this finished) or USS Constellation (which you might not have finished based on your bridge level as I'm not sure how many schematics have been awarded outside of that), I've heard the T'ong is also good. Most newer people in our fleet use the Krayton until they get further along on the Constellation. You will probably want three 20 second 25% healers and Demo Man Scotty to start, as your bridge level improves you can swap out a healer for Kirk/MACO Mayweather/Vindicta. You can also check if 4 healers does better for you but when I was testing it did not. Wait until some of the node combos are cleared for the full attack so you get the better bonuses, sometimes the boss attacks are slowed enough you can switch to two repairs (or even 1 or 0 sometimes!)

The best 25% repairers in portal are Dereth, Starfleet Medical Phlox, Laborer Kirk, Reunion Kirk and Spock (fuse crew), Mok'bara Crusher, and some new ones I missed. I used Scotty, Dereth, Crusher, and Reunion Kirk and Spock when I first started (I lucked into the 4 kirks for that and retrieved the Spock) If one or two are longer than 20 seconds, don't worry, it won't make that much of a difference short term but switch up your retrieval focus. For the non-attack repair crew you only need one copy for the equipment passive bonuses, but Dereth you will want finished for the most attack bonus.

Have you tried using the datacore boss battle tool?

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

I use Artifact. The thing to know is that the repair ability on the artifact you need to use manually, you can't auto-fight. If you do an auto, the game will trigger it as soon as it's available because it gives an attack bonus, so it ignores the fact that it's a 75% repair that you want to trigger when you're down to less than 25% hull strength, and not before.

You will also have to develop the knack of using the cooldown speedup. On auto it'll use it if any of the other abilities are on a cooldown, but it often is better to wait one or two or three seconds for another ability to finish and go into cooldown: like, if you just healed with dereth and laborer kirk, dereth is in cooldown already but kirk has 1 second left, you let that 1 second finish and then hit the cooldown speedup so it affects both. But! Delaying too much reduces how many uses you get out of it, so it's tricky.

You're going to plateau at bridge level 13 until your fleet can beat Nightmare over and over. USS Constellation is not an option at all until you have killed Nightmare for that one Bilitrium III drop like 25+ times for each bridge level past 13.

My fleet beat Nightmare for the second time ever last night, and only because one guy did 360M damage by, presumably, pouring a bunch of dilithium into it. I did 290 on one account and over 100 on my alt account, two other players did similar amounts, and we had like four other participants total. That's just the state of my fleet, which means bridge levels above 13 are simply locked out for everyone in my fleet. A year ago we had 50 fleet members, albeit 80% of them were under level 30 and there was a constant churn of level 10-20 players coming in and out. That's all gone now, we get maybe two new fleet members per month, always at low level. I don't know what's changed but new player activity seems to have plunged. As a casual fleet we're never going to try to force people to do dailies and we don't recruit on the forum etc. so that's all very unlikely to change.

As a result, fleet boss battles have been kind of a dud for us. Very cool and drove participation the first year, then just hit a wall and now it's a thing you do to farm a bit of honor when you feel like it and that's it.

crew slot sale is live, there's a free five-star crew in the portal, do a bunch of fuses and immortals to get some free beholds today, and don't forget to switch out your space ship for the Discovery to start working on "Beyond the Galactic Veil" as you finish up "Swindler and Con Man." I still have to grind out some federation shuttles and then level up Mudd on my alt account but I finished on my main.

On my alt account I also did a dilithium deal and tried out Star Trek Fleet Command. The Dil deal is pretty good, I'm at the end of the time period and got my thing leveled to 19 which was worth an accumulated total of 8600 dil; if I could have got to 21 it'd be another 4k dil but I couldn't quite get there.

That game kinda sucks to be honest, it's absolutely absurdly larded up with stuff, just a bewildering number of tokens and components and items and poo poo to cope with. Constant dozen events running so you randomly get achievements for poo poo you had no idea what you did and it's 10 different tokens for things you don't know where to go hand them in, plus maybe someone blew up one of your ships? You get their name but not where they live so retaliation is impossible? gently caress I dunno. You can maybe get some ships that are cool eventually but you'll be grinding at tons of things for years and after the initial overload of free poo poo your first 15 ops levels or so, you can start to see just how much pointless dithering you'll have to do to get stuff.

I thought STT had a lot of minigames but it really doesn't and this experience has made me appreciate it a lot more. You can put down STT at any moment and not just get stuff hosed because you left a ship out somewhere or didn't have a protective shell around your base, you don't need 200 shards of some random crew to get a good crew, and it doesn't feel like you have to engage with like a hundred distracting things in your face all the time.

But yeah it's a lucrative dilithium offer if you think you can stand grinding at fleet command for 45 days.

Oooh, nice dil haul! Will keep that one in mind for the next 4x

I picked a few small games for the 4x, first was a tile matching game that turns out to just play ads every 1500 points which is every two or three moves after level three so I abandoned that one. I have a solitaire game going and a merge game which looks like they stole almost everything from a prior merge three game I played (it is a different company but sometimes they are all owned by the same parent group so I don't know), both have a lot of tiers so I can stop whenever I'm busy. I blew all the dilithium I had chasing after T'Lyn last week and failed, hoping to get to 1500 to get 5 slots but I'm not too space restricted yet. Should get ~4000 total in dil from the two games but probably not the bigger prizes until the sale is over.

I just cleared out three purples for the OE and got 4th stars on two more, one from the OE and one on a voyage. The OE behold added a second star to Sela in Shadow. The new giveaway gold is in overflow but he is the only one left there so I should be ok. I had been slacking on gauntlet but this one makes you do that instead of shuttles so I guess I'll do it. Maybe I'll get the new jem'hadar guy too. I'm trying not to do too much leveling at the moment until the skirmish starts as I need half a million more credits for retrievals with the quantum from the last OE. I had a 14 hour voyage using some of the q equipped crew that brought in 950 chrons, the most I've gotten by far without revival tokens.

Skirmish Time! I do need to clear two more crew as I have to unfreeze the Raffi or make room for the new purple for the maximum points.

Big prize is animated Riker from the Very Short Treks, he's pretty good and a Riker so I might as well go for him, though a common skill set so I won't feel bad if I don't get him.

There is a new Honor Hall crew, a Michael Burnham who is a pretty good voyager but also another common skill set and I think the Chakotay in the Honor Hall is still a better voyager so the decision is yours. Not mine, as I don't have 100K honor left anyway lol.

They did another stream where they said they are working on a voyage event, no real details beyond that yet.

A secret room... always my favourite room in a house.
Somehow found this thread. Honestly didn't know there was a thread here.

I'm somehow a newer player to this old rear end gacha game. Why? I have no idea but I honestly didn't know there was a Star Trek gacha except the awful Fleet Command or whatever the hell it is called. This is much better.

So I've been playing for two months and every piece advice says to focus on 3 starring all the cadet missions. Great so I try to do that. The problem is the greens I decided to level aren't good enough to actually crit the nodes on the 3rd tier (epic or elite can't remember what it's called). So I google and see some reference to the 'Little Book' and 'Riker's Angels' and all that. But literally every link just ends up now redirecting to the 'big book' and as far as I can tell doesn't mention cadet missions literally anywhere on it and which greens to actually level to 3 star them all. Help?

Yeah a lot of resources have gone offline in the last couple of years - or been consolidated somewhere into Datacore

The 'Angels' were cadets who could be used on every challenge day - Cadet Sito Jaxa, Ensign Ro, Ensign Pazler, Ensign Seska, Festive Jadzia Dax, Injured Torres, and Lt Naomi Wildman.
I think they will cover everything except Medical challenges where you'll need CMO Crusher or Nurse Kes.

Looks like the wiki is back up and they have a bigger list of the best cadets to level that look about right but I don't think they've been updated to include any of the newest greens:
https://sttwiki.org/wiki/Cadet_Challenges

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

Hey! Welcome aboard, and if you're looking for a fleet to join, mine has like 25 slots open. It's not competitive at all, it's a relaxed/casual fleet, "A bit like collecting dolls".

Yeah so the cadet missions have specific requirements of crew to finish and you can find which ones by using the official wiki: https://sttwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page <--bookmark this
There's an overall Cadet Challenges introduction here: https://sttwiki.org/wiki/Cadet_Challenges
That's a good place to start.
Every mission in the game is here: https://sttwiki.org/wiki/Missions
And you'll see there's a subcategory for Cadet Challenges down the page: https://sttwiki.org/wiki/Missions#Cadet_Challenges
For each challenge, the wiki has a "remarks" column with advice about the ideal crew to complete that step of that mission. This whole page is a good shortcut for all mission questions for quick reference.

Then each Cadet Challenge actually has its own page with even more detail, for example https://sttwiki.org/wiki/Ex_Astris,_Scientia#Eligible_Crew
On there you can see a complete list of eligible crew. For Ex Astris, Scientia you can only use grey and green crew. But for the "advanced" version of A Certain Formality that runs on Saturdays, you can only use Rare (blue) crew. So you cannot complete all the Cadet Challenges with greens, period.

The fact is you will not get enough crew with exactly the right traits to complete all the cadet challenges for a long time, and you probably shouldn't focus on that as your only thing. The cadet challenge completion gets you access to some items that are otherwise only available via faction shuttle mission rare drops or by replicating them, and early in the game you will struggle to complete shuttle missions and have only one or two replications per day. So it's true that getting a few cadet challenges done is very helpful! But a big thing to do is to try and get better crew, and that means blues, purples, and golds. Better crew will help you get to the point where you can get a full 2 hour run on a Voyage, and Voyages are a nice source of free crew. They'll help you do better during the weekend events (every thursday through sunday) and those always give away crew. Better crew will help you climb ranks in the arena, which gets you more ship parts to build better ships which helps you do better on certain kinds of weekend events. Better crew gets you everything in the game, basically!

In fact, you could say that collecting and leveling up better crew is the heart of the game. Hence the name of my fleet. The game will shower you with free greys and greens if you play for a while, once you're completing voyages and shuttles and poo poo you'll be up to your ears in them. One thing I really like about this game is you do not ever have to actually spend money, and I'd strongly recommend against it to start. Be patient, the game dribbles out dilithium to you via the monthlong Campaigns, which you advance by doing your Dailies, and you'll be able to complete your ful Dailies only once you can get a 2-hour Voyage complete. Getting your free third shuttle will help a lot too, and one of your top priorities for dilithium when you get enough is to buy a fourth shuttle.

Anyway bigbook is this: https://www.bigbook.app/ and it's a fantastic resource for looking up specific crew. https://www.bigbook.app/ratings/overall Every crew in the game has a rank, from 10 (awful) to 1 (best) and they take tier into account, so even a grey crew like Chef Neelix https://www.bigbook.app/crew/neelix_chef_crew can get a #1 ranking. If you want a general guide about which greys and greens to prioritize, without puzzling out every mission and its requirements, that's bigbook. Each crew page will tell you what's good about it and how well that crew ranks against all other crew in its tier for the various parts of the game. For Chef Neelix there you can scroll to the bottom and see that he rates #3 overall among greys for voyages: that means only 2 other Common crew in the game are better at voyaging than him. He is also in 5 collections - getting enough crew in any given collection gets you some kind of bonus, so that's another reason to prioritize (in game, tap Manifest -> Cryostasis Vault -> Collections tab to see all the collections and how much crew you have for each one so far). To count towards a collection a crew has to be immortalized, that means level 100, fully equipped, and (for Uncommon+) fully fused as well. So you can see by those various rankings at the bottom why he earns a #1, even if you don't want to just read the explanation which also adds that Neelix here is cheap to equip as you level him up, meaning you don't need loads of those rare faction-specific item drops. Lately Bigbook has been getting pretty routinely updated, I haven't seen a crew page older than mid-2023, and that's good because as the game changes the relative rankings can shift too, especially for gold crew.

The third useful site to bookmark is datacore: https://datacore.app/
It's a bit fiddly but with this app you can upload your game ID (don't worry, this is secure, it has read access only) and then analyze your current set of crew (and ships etc.) and get advice about what to prioritize, how much it'll cost to level specific crew, find duplicates, just tons of stuff. Under "tools" you'll find some useful stuff like a helper to help you pick what crew to pick when you get a Behold (a reward where you have to pick one of three presented crew of the same rarity), there's a tool for Gauntlet to help you pick the best possible crew you own, etc. I would say this is third in importance, the above two links are more about figuring out how to play and this app is more about optimizing play after you've got the hang of things.

Also lastly :justpost: everyone here is happy to answer any dumb question and help out in any way.

oh yeah, the reason the advice is to 3-star the cadet missions is because once you've 3-starred a mission you can warp it which completes the mission automatically without needing available crew. since cadet missions are the only time you explicitly want more common and therefore weaker crew getting those stars lets you clear all those cadets off the roster without needing them active to finish the missions every day. that's really the only benefit of it aside from making it quicker to tick off on the dailies.

also, all the cadet mission rewards scale for the difficulty you complete, but the one that gives shuttle token packs you actually want to concentrate on the middle difficulty because it gives you a 10x pack of rares each with ~10% to roll epic while the highest difficulty only gives you a 1x rare with a ~20% chance.

Felinoid
Mar 8, 2009

Marginally better than Shepard's dancing. 2/10
The highest difficulty gives you three of those 1x packs for each mission, but frankly I find the other stuff you can gain from those missions of more importance, since sometimes it's faction items.

E: For that particular day of the week, I think I mostly spam the 2nd mission at mid difficulty because it gives some medical book that's made out of an augment item.
