Quebecor-owned Freedom Mobile appears to be relaunching its home internet and TV services, though availability remains limited so far.

According to a post on RedFlagDeals (RFD), Freedom is providing internet services under VMedia. However, the company so far is only offering it to select customers — look for a home internet banner in your Freedom My Account to sign up. Alternatively, you can check this webpage to learn more, though your mileage may vary. Internet is only available for existing Freedom wireless customers.

An iPhone in Canada report says Freedom’s internet offerings will utilize Rogers’ cable network and registration will launch on May 7th. RFD notes that Freedom uses Rogers cable at least for the 500Mbps and higher speeds.

Update 05/08/2024 at 9:11am ET: Freedom told MobileSyrup that the pricing reported by RFD and iPhone in Canada for the company’s internet packages isn’t accurate and shared updated pricing, which you can find below. We’ve also kept the originally reported price for comparison.

30Mbps — $39/mo for 12 months (regular $45), previously reported as $22.50/mo for 12 months
100Mbps — $60/mo for 12 months (regular $70), previously reported as $35/mo for 12 months
500Mbps — $80/mo for 12 months (regular $85), previously reported as $42.50/mo for 12 months
1Gbps — $90/mo for 12 months (regular $95), previously reported as $47.50/mo for 12 months
Freedom’s home internet plans include a modem and eero 6 router rental.

As for TV, that will reportedly run on VMedia too, and offer a starting price of $10/mo (after a $9/mo credit for 12 months). The start package will include all major Canadian and U.S. networks. Freedom TV requires an eligible Freedom internet package. Reportedly it will have $20/mo theme packs with additional content, such as sports, Movies+, Stack TV, News and Entertainment.

The TV service relies on Freedom’s TV app and works on several devices, including Apple TV, Android TV, Google Chromecast and more.

so yeah just reselling vmedia or rogers so you can bundle with your cell phone

Start is just Telus now, it's probably the same as every other company Telus buys. They don't give a poo poo about uptime, network quality, anything really. Usually they buy the company so they can shut it down and move them to Telus directly.

We moved for similar reasons, though I don't know if they've been worse than TekSavvy. I just always blamed it on Rogers shittiness. I don't think I've ever called in, since it always resolves itself after a few hours.

The amount of poo poo in this thread that I simply don’t have to deal with by being a Fibrestream / Beanfield customer is incredible.

It even has the same website as PubMo.

Unfortunately, it also seems to have the same price as Telus? At least for my address/plan. Although I guess this is a Telus contract price, not the ludicrous price they switch it to when the contract ends...

Dammit. They are finally digging to install fibre on my street in Aurora, but it's through TelMax. Who the hell is TelMax? 3.2 stars on google and the only discussion I can find is on r/newmarket and the comments there all follow the 1/10 or 10/10 reviews. Rates going up, getting ghosted by customer service, but no outage complaints. So if it works it's great, if installation isn't done right good luck getting it fixed.

My cable line through Teksavvy/Rogers dangles on and above the rickety fences of 10 other houses to get to me. The junction box dangling above a fence a few houses down, regularly fills with water and my connection will cut in and out until the sun dries it out. So I think TelMax is my only option. Actually after 5 years of 3rd party technicians just running a new RG6 to my house, an actual Rogers technician showed up a few months ago and did some actual work, I only had 3 outages this winter!

TelMax:
$70/month for 1.5/1 with a 1 year contract, $93 for 1/1 with no contract.
$60/month for 500/500 with a 1 year contract, $85 with no contract.

Yup! For the first time in my life I would have been ok with Bell getting that contract. TelMax is based in Stouffville and just serves there and the Newmarket area, expanding into Aurora is going to leave them even more stretched thin. How is that allowing 3rd parties access to fibre lines going? Does it even matter if Teksavvy is putting itself up for sale? ugh

Bell came by yesterday offering 500 for the same price.

When I moved here 20 years ago, Aurora Cable Internet ran everything, apparently some of the fastest in Ontario. They were talking about rolling out fibre just before getting bought out by Rogers in 2008!
