It was Joker And The Thief by Wolfmother, I just got home and found the show on catch up so I could listen with headphones and managed to pick out enough lyrics to google. I think my description sucked but in my defence I heard it on tv from across a crowded room :v:

I want to say this was a 2010s song. The verses are sung by a man but the repeated chorus is sung by a woman with a high pitched voice. It's very bittersweet and was about either death or suicide.

I WANT to say there was a lyric in there about pouring tea or coffee but I'm not 100%.

E: "Death Bed." 2020.

Shrimp or Shrimps
Feb 14, 2012

Sometime in the last 15 years. Sung by a black male artist. Song was slow paced. The music video was set in a swanky, quite well lit club with a color palette of lots of dark browns. It wasn't neon lights or lasers or anything like that, more private bar at the ritz kind of vibe. The artist (protagonist) may have had to retreat to the toilets for a while. Scenes of the protagonist with a woman, possibly white and blonde but really can't remember.

From what I remember, the song was possibly about how connections made late night at the club are meaningless, something like that. It is a sad and reflective sort of song. Genres would be pop-stroke-rnb? Sorry, I'm not good with categorizing music.

Thank you!

VV For some reason your post reminded me of who it was, Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happiness, although listening to / watching it again my description was kind of an odd mishmash of right and wrong lol

life in the time of deepfakes
any chance anybody recognizes the song or band from the snippet off this cassette? https://vimeo.com/938158044

Some additional detail -- cassette came from a thrift store in Amsterdam, and was potentially recorded off the radio there. Someone mentioned it reminded them of a band called Lifetime, and that it might be 90s New Jersey hardcore. It def sounds distinctly early 90s/early-2000s to me.

I've been obsessed with this snippet for a week so any direction would be thrilling.

🚣RowboatMan: ❄️Freezing time🕰️ is an old P.I. 🥧trick...

I know this mostly from the music video. I think it's Shaun Desman or Shawn Mendes, I don't know, as far as I can tell, they're the same guy.

It starts off with a synth line, it might be just a high pitched bass, and whichever Shaun it is is playing the bass line, and he's using either a korg padkontrol or trigger finger (some sort of MPC device).

I can't get the riff out of my head and I need to hear it again because I hate it. You know how it is.

Does anyone remember this pixel art music video, maybe 10-20 years old, depicting the story of a man becoming a rockstar, gaining fame, getting groupies, falling out of fame and health and I can't remember much more. It played like a side-scrolling video game with the player moving from left to right, sometimes entering a building, having hearts for health, stuff like that.

I think I remember. The first round the main character dies. The second round ends when he has sex with lots of women, like they are in the same room and take turns. And then he goes to heaven or nirvana or something.

I think it was posted on metafilter.com but I couldn't find it by searching.

This is an "identify a singer" request, does anyone know who the male vocalist is reading the lyrics on "Friendship" by Faithless?

I have this weird suspicion it's Bill Drummond, but I can't find any credits for the song.

Looking for an earworm rock and roll/rockabilly so g that I catch every few years on the radio or in the shopping center.

It’s a fast paced rock song, almost rockabilly, from around the late 60s (it could have been recorded later and sounded like it), with a guy sounding maybe a bit like Del Shannon.

The discerning characteristic is the refrain: “Ooh ooh ooh ooh” (number of oohs should be correct). The verses are very short and simple.

I loathe this song. I need to find out more about so that my gates of hate may open wider and swallow it whole.

Could you detail the 'oohs' more? Are they barking or smooth? Ascending, descending, or uniform? Fast or slow?

Something like E C C D, uniform.

Ooh ooooh ooooh ooh

It’s really close to Thurston Harris - Little Bitty Pretty One but in a different key and probably newer. Production wise, it may be something like Shakin Stevens (not him, he’s more upbeat) - newer stuff from the 80’s made to sound older.

Maybe S.O.B. by Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats? That one sounds a lot like Little Bitty Pretty One. Except he doesn't sound at all like Del Shannon and S.O.B. is an awesome song.

Haha no, that’s not it although I can see some similarity.

I wouldn’t get hung up on Del Shannon, it’s more of a time/style connection.

I recon it’s a 70’s-80’s thing made to sound like 60’s. Like I went through the whole Crime Story soundtrack trying to find it.

Based on hearing it on the radio a ton and loathing the singer as a result, it might be Budapest by George Ezra

Aaah such a good shot but no!

The refrain only had the oohs in it, no other words.

Of all the ohs songs so far, Thurston Harris is really close. https://youtu.be/B8j4mn4eF-c?si=ntlMmZ7RhdkOV0yd

I feel I’m close… Dion, Pitney, thereabouts. It’ll be a clusterfuck when I find it and it’ll turn out it sounds nothing like I remembered.

No shot of it being Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I figure?

The Beach Boys did some awful early rock covers for 15 Big Ones in 1976, but the only one with substantial play was Rock and Roll Music. T. Rex dd some stuff that was stylistically closer to the 1950s for Electric Warrior but only Jeepster had him doing anything resembling oohs.

Yeah, it's either something from the 60's-70's or like rockabilly revival of the 80's, only its not as happy as rockabilly usually is.

Fun Shoe
I saw a music video in passing years ago. Electro-swing, lyrics were "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing" which is a lyric used in countless songs. The video is a stylized animated thing showing a couple that steals a vinyl from a record store. They get in their car and pop a record player out from the glove box to play the record.
