Wotjeo and Pūmič stumbled over themselves trying to apologize, only to be interrupted by laughter as bright and warm as sunlight came from the bundle of feathers. Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing added in the sing-song tone of someone apologetically explaining something for at least the thousandth time, "It's not your fault. She's much larger than she looks and how that's possible is a maze in which minds far older than yours have gotten lost. As long as you don't try to see past her outer feathers you'll be fine. It has caused us no end of trouble with the Viridian's, and the missing Empress, long may she reign. At least that's done with, now. I'm pleasantly surprised Liuxue was able to lure you away from Medical Saint Qianni. How is she doing?" Wotjeo and Pūmič looked at the older woman in surprise. Pūmič replied, "Our teacher is doing well. Do you know her?" Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing waved her hand noncommittally. "I never met her in person, I'm far too busy to travel. I know her only through her letters. There are less than two dozen Medical Saints in the Emerald Empire. Of course we try to stay in contact. We don't share our deepest insights, but we're the only ones who really understand each other. That's why I was so eager to meet you. The last letter I got from Medical Saint Qianni was full of praise for her two apprentices. You're just as cute as she described. Especially you mister bear." Huiqing pinched their cheeks. Wotjeo and Pūmič gaped at the older woman, too surprised to be upset by the pinch. Qianni had never talked about the other Medical Saints with them. She'd impressed on them the danger of revealing their Life dantians, and here she'd been writing letters telling people about them? Groping about for how to react, Wotjeo thought to Pūmič "She doesn't seem like she's going to murder us for our dantians, maybe this is okay?" Pūmič mentally shrugged. She didn't know what to think or how to react either. Realizing they'd been quiet for longer than was polite she hesitantly asked, "So are you a Medical Saint too? Qianni didn't tell us about other Medical Saints." Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing patted Pūmič on her head, somehow not messing up the braids that kept her long hair presentable despite spending all morning flying on a cloud. "Yes. I know you're not Medical Saints yet, but I'd be interested in your thoughts after a tour of my Healing Hall." Pūmič nodded. "That sounds great! Elder Qianni recognized us as Medical Saints shortly before we left, but we still have a lot to learn, we'd love to see how you do things." Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing looked sharply at them, her piercing regard cutting their her earlier warmth like a knife through butter. "Is that so?" She asked them a series of rapid fire questions, testing their knowledge of Healing with and without madra. After a grueling hour she laughed in delight. The sunlight laughter of Wen mixed with hers. "Amazing! Cute and brilliant! You are the youngest Medical Saints by at least two decades! Come on, let's go see my patients." As Liuxue's mother said, there were more than enough Healers present to tend to all the Lianhe injured. There was no one waiting to be treated and the cultivation rooms whe Healer's kept their madra topped off between Healings in Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing's Healer's Hall were all occupied. The Healer's Hall itself was different both from those of the Luxing Traveling Academy and those they'd borrowed during their trip through Juedouzhe territory. The hallways were three times as wide as they were used to, Wotjeo and Pūmič could walk side by side with the blue-green robed Huiqing comfortably. The rooms in the Healer Hall were split left and right. Those on the left side of the hallways were similar to those in Luxing Traveling Academy's Healer Hall in the clouds. Those on the right side were a series of progressively larger rooms. Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing explained, "Almost all Lianhe fight accompanied by spirit's. In case they're injured badly enough that they can't change size, we have rooms big enough to fit all but the largest." In addition to the usual potions, herbs, and tools they were used to using for twice-born, the larger rooms were also stocked with a number of potions and tools that they duo weren't familiar with. Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing showed them a few of the potions and explained they were specially brewed to help the different spirits who "fought alongside The Lianhe." Wotjeo and Pūmič had not made a serious study of potion making since their earliest childhood lessons, but they thought the special spirit potions were a great idea. Leading the duo to one of the few occupied rooms, Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing told them, "The Nuli techniques are nothing special, but the Viridian's may they rot forever, often use techniques with lingering effects. Not just poison or damaged channels either. Those are bad enough, but they also sometimes put trap techniques into our injured that don't activate until a Healer is present. They nearly killed Healer Haoyu. Would have, if I hadn't gotten there in time. I'm taking you to see Mingze now. I think he's suffering from a poison technique and I'd like your thoughts. I don't think he's got any trap techniques in him, but be careful." It was a struggle not to gasp when they saw Mingze. His body was almost completely covered in lines of virulent viridescence. Only his head; the central column of his torso; and right leg were free of the ghastly light. Sending their diagnostic technique through him didn't set off any trap techniques, as far as the duo could tell, but it did make the viridescence pulse brighter so they decided they definitely weren't doing that again. Finishing their visual inspection, they confirmed with Mingze and Medical Saint Huiqing what had happened. He'd been hit in both arms and left legs by the Viridian technique. At the time, he thought they'd been just grazing blows and didn't notice the viridescent lines until the next day. Since then, they'd been creeping towards his dantian and sped up drastically whenever he tried to cycle. In addition to being an obviously bad idea, cycling was also intensely painful for him. Not only Mingze's madra channels glowed with virulent viridescence. The man's blood channels glowed as well, where the two overlapped, the virdian glow seemed slightly stronger. Wotjeo's and Pūmič's focus on swift, battle-field healing had been very helpful in saving the lives of the three Juedouzhe during their travels, but now they found themselves wishing they'd had more time to learn about healing channels and dantians from Medical Saint Qianni, or gone back and taken up Old Wupo's offer to teach them about poisons. Despite their lack of specialist knowledge, they still had a few ideas, but they weren't certain any of them would work. They hadn't sensed any trap techniques either, but they didn't know what those would look like, and worried that the obviously foreign madra in his channels could be obscuring any traces. 1)How do Wotjeo and Pūmič offer to treat him? A. Amputate and regrow. Will almost certainly work, but will keep Mingze out of the fight for weeks if not months until the danger of having the Healing undone by a new injury fades. B. Wrap both of Mingze's dantians to protect them from their madra, and then try a full-body heal using his own dream-image of his body's ideal state. They've never tried something like that before and aren't sure they have enough madra to do it. If they do, it'll be a quick solution, but also risks setting off all the trap techniques (if any) at the same time C. Use Curada's earliest lessons on channel blocking, and purge his channels of poison in small sections. This would be a lengthy, labor intensive process. One they probably couldn't complete this afternoon. D. Focus on draining the poison from the blood channels using non-madra techniques, hopefully weakening the poison madra, and then focus on healing the madra channels. Would almost certainly take days. E. Two healers work in tandem, one focuses on healing the blood channels while the other focuses on healing the madra channels. Healers don't work together for the good and obvious reason that their madra would clash and further injure the already wounded person. In theory, Wotjeo and Pūmič could work together however. Highly experimental, but relatively fast. F. E, but Wojtoe and Pūmič and Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing work together. In theory, their Life madra won't conflict with whatever she uses, but they have no experience working with her at all. Even more experimental than E. G. Instead of offering help, they share what they think and leave it in Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing's hands H. This update kinda confirms to me what I've felt this whole time. Being a healer isn't going to be enough to change a war. They've got a lot of healers. They have a medical saint. The things we can do here won't change the course of a war. We can give some people days off, maybe let someone go to the front lines to do triage, but it's not gonna be enough to win a war they're losing. We need to do something more than just heal if we want the Lianhe to win this war. And we aren't social enough to get another house to join in, or clever enough to create trap strategies to even the odds.

H but only because the vacuum is an area affect and not something which affects the body directly. Also some questions which are good practice but also I'm curious about. Is Mingze's spirit friend a factor here? (probably need to ask out of this guys earshot because chances are they're dead) Does anyone in 4 meters have active techniques going we shouldn't disrupt? If not Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing should be excluded, even if we can't eat the whole technique we might be able to weaken for 3 minutes and allow some other healing techniques to be used without interference from the poison. Anyway, excited to find out what happens when a technique that eats Madra to work meets a technique that drains Madra.

Honestly battlefield healing seems incredibly dangerous in a way I'm not sure is good for us to put our eggs fully in the basket of (yet). We have sort of worked to lessen the weakness of 'getting hit where you were healed makes the wound even worse than the sum total of two wounds' between making a small amount of healing count as natural and our healing providing a physical buff to help people get hurt less... But the risk is still present. Unless we get very good very quickly at two extreme skills I don't think they'll be battlefield tide turning level. If we had another year of practice with our natural healing path and our instant Restoration we might be that level. We can stem the bleeding, save people other healers couldn't off the back of our speed. But I don't think we should be healing those people mid fight then expect them to go back out and fight more. It'll be great for reducing losses, not creating wins. The war as presented so far is very much not in the Lianhe's favor. I dunno if stemming their bleeding will buy them the time they need.

The simplest and surest is to amputate the limbs poisoned by the virulent Viridian madra and then regrow them. All four limbs in this case. It's such a simple and reliable approach that they're surprised it hasn't been done already. The only downside is that it would be weeks, maybe even a few months before his body fully incorporated the Healing and he could safely cycle, cultivate, or fight. Instead of any of the approaches they learned from their many and varied Healing mentors, the duo decide to try an approach that came to them in a dream. They have not one, but two techniques that specifically break down madra. The last time they used one of them, consume, on a person, it killed them, which is why they decide to use their less efficient Vacuum technique instead. Turning to Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqin, Pūmič informs her in her authoritative Healer voice. "I have a technique to break down foreign madra. Unfortunately, it affects a wide area and will break down the madra of everyone and everything inside the area. Can you keep people out of the rooms on either side and from passing through the hallway until we are finished?" Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqin ageless eyes sparkle. "Easily. I'm very interested to see what technique Medical Saint Qianni's apprentice came up with! Is it safe to watch through the window?" Wotjeo and Pūmič look at the window, open to bring fresh air into the Healing room. Pūmič shrugs, "You can if you want to, but we were planning to exclude you from the technique. We can only exclude one person though, so Wen and everyone else need to stay a safe distance." Wen flew out the open window. While Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqin made sure her assistants knew to keep the area clear, the duo guided Wen to hover a safe distance away too. ***Wotjeo's Perspective While they could both cycle the Vacuum technique at the same time, they'd agreed that it would be safe if one of them didn't so the other could Heal the one using it, just in case the Viridian's had left a trap technique behind. It was his job to protect his sister, so obviously, he was the one who would be taking the risk. Once his human sister had finished getting everyone else into position, he began. The Vacuum technique was one of the most complicated techniques they knew. Even with all the time they'd spent practicing, it still took him a few seconds to complete the first full cycle. As soon as he completed the first technique, he felt it claim the area around him, and start drawing all the madra inside towards him. Usually when they used the technique, draining madra from other's was as easy as picking up fruit from their lunch basket. Draining the Viridian technique was much, much harder. Instead of easily and swiftly sucking it towards his side where he preferred to focus the technique it was like trying to lift a boulder. No, like lifting a dozen boulders. He could do it. He could feel little dribs and drabs of the virulently glowing madra spraying against his armored side, but it was so slow. And so heavy, he had to focus everything on pushing his suddenly sluggish madra through his channels. Again he cycled, his breath came in heaving gasps in time with the stuttering stop-and-go flow of his madra as he forced it through his channels. He could barely spare the attention to exclude his human sister and the strange Medical Saint from his technique as his focus narrowed. ***Pūmič's Perspective Pūmič paced back and forth as her bear brother struggled with the technique. She could tell he wasn't hurt, just completely focused. Normally the vacuum technique was almost effortless to sustain once started,, despite the complexity of the cycling pattern. She had worried at first that it was a Viridian trap technique, but she hadn't heard any new techniques activating, and she'd seen this once before. The safestone wall blocking the four-finned fish spirit had also been a struggle to drain. So she was reasonably sure that her bear brother wasn't hurt, but she couldn't help but worry. Especially as the time dragged on. 10 minutes passed, far longer than they'd ever needed to use the technique before. An hour. Two. ***Wotjeo's Perspective Relentlessly, he pushed his madra through his channels again and again. His dantian swiftly emptying, despite the slow trickle of converted foreign madra. After what felt like an eternity he felt his dantian getting dangerously low and stopped cycling. ***Pūmič's Perspective Pūmič rushed forward to hug and support her much larger bear brother when he finally stopped cycling after nearly 3 hours. The virulent green glow of the Viridian technique had retreated slowly but surely before her bear brother's technique. Now it only lit up the channels in Mengzi's hands and feet, but the glow was no dimmer than before. Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing offered them refreshments and congratulated them. "A fascinating technique, with similarities to techniques used to take injuries into yourself. But only surface similarities, I think?" Pūmič opened her mouth but Medical Saint Lizhiyuzhe Huiqing shushed her, "No, I'm not prying after your secrets. You've done more than enough by letting me watch. Very impressive, not many techniques are effective against madra from a higher tier cultivator; but I'd expect nothing less from Medical Saint Qianni's apprentices. Is the… goop safe to touch?" This gave us some valuable knowledge too. I felt semi safe risking options like attacking that stronger viridian, off the back of being able to drain techniques extremely quickly and thus making it a punch fest which Pumie and Wotjeo could easily have an advantage in. Obviously our technique is much less efficient against higher tier cultivators than I thought, and that's good to have in mind when making plans with it. We don't know how strong the cultivator who afflicted Mengzi is, but i can't imagine he was anything more than a tier, maybe two above us? We probably could have done combo healing time and finished this in an afternoon and super impressed Huiqing with our coordination and bearter together stuff. But some xp in a skill we don't train enough that I want at cap, and some knowledge of how it's use looks against stronger enemies was very worth it. Edit: I just also wanna note for those who don't watch number go up like I do, we are only 2 ranks from another insight into the vacuum. And are at 200/280 for the current rank.
