There's a scifi novel I'm reading that is set 1000 years in the future where there are starships and dome environments but computing power is not that far from our actual present but there's a religion that believes that a sentient AI was created at some point, and it's merely concealing the fact of its existence while also secretly controlling everything. Honestly, if this was the 2100's, I'd be a devotee.

Guavanaut posted:Obviously part of it is that, but the hypothesis does go in some interesting directions. Fertile soils from volcanic ash and plentiful freshwater springs are the two big claims. On a certain level these are just two very different ways of thinking about the same phenomenon.

And one day the earth shall reclaim her children. By which I mean that there are many places that are now densely populated which are in zones that could quickly turn disastrous because of that link.
